Pizzazz Enthusiasts Answer Back – Making 12 Intriguing Connections

I hope this post will be as much fun for you as me. For a bit of insider scoop, when you author a website or info blog, you hear from lots of folks. It’s surprising how many people contact me about submissions OR how often I get links to another article based on something I’ve written. I am frequently amazed by some of the connections that are made, and other times stunned by the relevance and comparisons to my original piece.

I want to share some of these communications – most are recent, some a bit older. As I am sure you’ve noticed, people regularly pick up an article long after it was first posted. [I wonder if that is why some blogs don’t date their articles, which actually drives me nuts.] So as not to simply present a gossip column, I have included notes, websites, articles and references about their different subjects – I trust at least one will intrigue you.

Osteoporosis

After several of my posts mentioned Osteoporosis, I was contacted by the National Council for Aging Care promoting their article Osteoporosis Defined: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments. Looking it over, I thought it seemed more detailed than anything I’ve done on the subject – solid, interesting and something worth sharing with others. Check out their site, especially under the dropdown ‘Resources’ menu item.

Airbnb Tips

AgingWithPizzazz has dealt with travel occasionally – although not with enough in-the-field personal research for my taste. Recently there was 13 Tips to Avoid Injury & Save Money during Senior Summer Fun, and from a guest writer we ran Best Tips on Air Travel for Seniors. After one of those, I heard from Zoey who writes for a blog with such a strange name, I hesitated to pass it along, or even visit the site. Okay, not THAT strange. But with a name like ‘Stagkissbudapest.com’ I didn’t know what to expect – or if the emphasis was too narrow, and focused on one place. Nevertheless, I checked out her article Find the Perfect Airbnb Accommodation and it has broad appeal to those curious about refining their Airbnb experience. Additionally, if you are ever interested in Budapest, this blog site is a must.

Birds and Bucket Lists

Coming across my article Bucket-List Addition: Backyard Birding Literacy, I heard from Jonny, a real pro, who has been an avid birder for over 20 years. I was so relieved when he didn’t critique or complain about my post! He did however share what he called a “shameless plug” but which I thought was terrific. His article found on HobbyHelp.com entitled Ultimate Beginners Guide to Bird Watching is quite comprehensive for a beginner – or even more-than-a-beginner. Jonny is spot-on when he says “t’s a pretty cool resource for anyone looking to get started! If I do say so myself.” I would add that not only is this an instructive article, I loved the pictures. If you are at all interested in nature (and lovely pics), check this one out.

Exercising on Your ‘Can’

I did a micro post on 3 Activities for Screen & TV sitting. I love the idea of getting two things for the price of ONE PIECE OF TIME. A reader (not the author or blog) sent me a related link. I reviewed and liked it. From the site, VeryWellFit.com is the article 10 Chair Exercises for Seniors: It’s Never too Late to Start Strength Training by Laura Williams.

If you don’t want to read, but instead just want a video instruction, along the same vein as above is 10 Minute Chair Workout for Seniors – HASfit Seated Exercise for Seniors – Chair Exercise for Elderly. [Clicking on it brings you to the YouTube video.]
And since I often write for 60andMe.com, I don’t want to leave out Margaret Manning’s Gentle Yoga for Seniors DVD and Online Videos.

Addictions of all Kinds (Or Alcohol & Diabetes)

After reading my article, Alzheimers-Diabetes Collude, Paul Clarke at ADT Healthcare sent me a note about a similar combo problem with diabetes, this time alcohol. ADT, located outside the US, specializes in healthcare and treatment options for addiction of various kinds. He has written an article entitled: The Ultimate Guide to Alcohol and Diabetes. Not everyone is concerned about addictions – or diabetes. Despite that, the blog (accessed through the article link) handles various addictions and questions, even exploring whether coffee and Facebook are addicting.

Doing Good Better

My husband faithfully reads the very successful blog of a friend of ours, which I too call a favorite. The site, CanIRetireYet.com has all sorts of great info, serving beyond the demographic of those just ready to retire. Recently, there was an article entitled Doing Good Better with Your Money. Before all my grammar-phils out there think someone made a mistake in the title – it’s about doing ‘Good.’ We think about donations, volunteering, or kindness to others. So how can we ensure our money is serving us to help best serve others in return. The blog owner, Darrow Kirkpatrick explains that making a difference needs a ‘personal fit.’ While much of this site is dedicated to retiring (on the horizon), this article is helpful to those of all ages, and especially retired people wanting to make their donations (or legacies) most efficient –finding ways to make their life work, or life energy (money) do the best it can in the world.

Rebounding

I have written about Rebounding more than once. After one of those articles Buying into Health Bounce-Fitness – but at $25 or $450?, one of the suppliers contacted me. While I ended up purchasing a different producrebounder springst called the Cellercise, it was the Needak people who wrote to update their URL (and I am sure to promote their product.) I had mentioned the Needak, especially for heavier weigh people. It’s a foldable unit, and a bit expensive (most of the good ones are) but for a ‘soft’ feel (compared to some) it is made for a sturdy workout. I figured I’d give them another plug – but mostly just wanted to plug rebounding again to everyone. It’s a safe and healthful activity – even as we age.

It takes only 20 minutes to become effective, so ideally it should be taken about one hour prior to sexual activity.Side Effect of viagra cheap online 100mg at room temperature. More from Promoters – this time CVS

Keeping with the theme of promotions, after I wrote Is Loyalty to Your Pharmacy Misplaced, I was contacted by CVS. They had been the ipso facto hero in that particular scenario of mine (at least for that event). Obviously, CVS doesn’t need to promote itself on a small site such as AgingWithPizzazz. However, at the time (late last year) they were rolling out a program of newly designed bottles and labels to help people with medications, and wanted to know if I wished to write about it. I assume that by now, all the major pharmacies have made the change as well,  but in reality, I had never thought much about the issue. Martina from CVS said, “Managing multiple prescriptions is a major reason why people struggle with medication adherence and the consequences of taking the wrong dosage were too serious for CVS not to take action.” I guess it is something for us to think about especially if we have loved ones with difficulties or family members with Alzheimer’s issues. The bottle, the labeling, the schedule sheets and more can make the difference between compliance or complications. If you use CVS, then you already benefit from this small aid; but if you use a drug store not yet on board, you might want to weigh in and mention it to them. [They love customer feedback……I think.] Martina sent me this link for their new designs (you can view them here if you actually want), but the important point, and why I mention this, is just to be aware – ESPECIALLY if you deal with multiple medications for yourself or someone else.

Obituary Help? Or Starting a Family Tree

Don’t let the name throw you. The popular site is not just advice for obituaries, which most of us really don’t want help rushing toward, thank you. Suzie, a volunteer at ObituariesHelp.org contacted me to promote their efforts in helping people start their own Family Trees. I only hope (wink-wink) that she didn’t contact AgingWithPizzazz with an eye mostly on the ‘aging’ part. Either way, at some point in our lives many of us start to look back and wonder a bit about family and roots. We may not all make it onto PBS with Henry Louis Gates Jr. helping us (tearfully) find our roots, but we might start small. [They have free templates for setting up family trees if you can find the minuscule links at the top of their page at https://obituarieshelp.org/free_printable_blank_family_tree.html.]

Pillow Picker

Responding to the post Nocturia – or just typical nighttime visitations, I heard from Rachel at Pillowpicker.com. Guess what they sell? To be fair, she shared that having struggled with insomnia most of her adult life, sleep disorders are an issue close to her heart. My attention was actually drawn more by her question of whether I knew about ‘Exploding Head Syndrome.’ [Spoiler: I didn’t.] But it got my attention enough to read her article: 20 Scary Sleep Disorders That’ll Totally Freak You Out!  [Okay, so Exploding Head is a ‘thing’ and I have had it on occasion. But it’s not so “scary.”]
Even if you don’t want a new pillow, it’s worth the click just to see the cute panda on her front page. Again, be cautioned that they are selling (a truly vast array of pillows), but the ‘blog’ section has a lot of good sleep info and related articles. No snooze there.

Facebook Withdrawal

ElderWellness.net is a simple site with very limited writing about Body, Mind and Spirit, (you can probably read the whole site in 10 minutes). However, it was her letter that amused me. I think others might relate. Karen was seeking to write for more blogs – like many people. But why? She decided to delete her Facebook account. She found that task way trickier than she thought. And – common story – the grandson had to step in to hit the final death knell of her Facebook existence. Uh oh, it’s gone – it’s over. Then she started to have social media withdrawal. Seeing her note, I thought “Yup! We just can’t have it all.” The good news is that she learned to reach out in other ways and I simply wanted to share the sweet thoughts on her petite blog.

Not least…. but last –
All my Friends are Getting New Eyes

Saved a favorite for last. After reading our article (a guest post by Lorraine Vail) entitled Blind as a Bat – No More, someone sent me the link to 6 Ways to Protect Your Precious Eyes as you Age. Another good, solid article by Diane Lansing, an RN geriatric nurse. While the article appeared on SixtyandMe.com, Diane also owns and writes the blog NursingHomeVolunteer.com.

FINAL THOUGHT

I often shun what I would describe as social media. With that in mind, I laughed a bit after finishing this post, thinking to myself, “well, what exactly is this, if not using online media in a social way – trying to connect with others.” As is common in life, I guess it’s all in our perception. My perception is that I’m not really a social media blogger, but a “connector” to other people and ideas. I think I’ll stick to that opinion – despite any other reality.

Taking some time off, and I’ll ‘see’ you in July.
